About the course
You will explore film style, narrative, editing, camera work and film history. Through class discussion and by analysing a variety of films spanning the early years of cinema to the present-day, you will gain new perspectives on how films create meaning and impact audiences.
Each week you will focus on a different aspect of film studies—from style and editing to recent cinematic trends in American and European cinema.
This course offers a comprehensive look into the diverse ways films are crafted and understood and how the socio-political context influences the portrayal of characters and settings.
Any essential or recommended reading will be shared by the course teacher once the course is confirmed to run.
You will require access to a device with an internet connection.
What you'll learn
If you have fully engaged with all the learning activities and have attended regularly, by the end of the course, you should be able to:

- Describe how industrial, commercial, and artistic factors collectively influence the evolution of cinema as an art form
- Interpret the socio-political and ideological dimensions of film production and how these influence the portrayal of characters and settings
