About the course

Explore your potential as a creative jewellery maker in this short workshop. Start by designing and creating a simple band ring, using hand tools and hammers to experiment with metal texturing techniques. Learn to saw, file, solder, and roll print, with opportunities to explore bangle making for further design experimentation. By the end, you'll have created your own unique, stylish piece of jewellery.

You will be taught in specialist art and design studios and through practical demonstrations, one-to-one tuition, group discussions and critiques.

Learners are responsible for purchasing their own materials. You may be required to bring some materials to your first and subsequent classes. Learn more about the materials required for this course here. Please do not purchase any materials until your course is confirmed to run. You will require access to a device with an internet connection.

What you'll learn

Learning in this course is hands-on, and your skills will develop through practice, discovery, and engagement with materials and techniques. If you have fully engaged with all the learning activities and have attended regularly, by the end of the course, you should be able to:

  • Explore and document the design process, using sketches, tests, and samples to develop ideas for rings and bangles in precious and non-precious metals;
  • Create rings and bangles, applying a range of metalworking techniques, including sawing, filing, soldering, and texturing;
  • Demonstrate hands-on design and craftsmanship skills developed through jewellery techniques, fostering precision, creativity and attention to detail.
