About the course
Join us for a survey of global history through the lens of some of the most influential empires in world history.
Each week you will consider a different empire, from the First Persian Empire, in around 2330 BCE, to the British Empire in the 20th century.
You will consider the rise and fall, and the social, political and economic impact of empires including the Roman and Byzantine empires as well as the Umayyad Caliphate, the Mongol Khanate and the Mughal Empire. Through assessing these case studies, you will find commonalties and contrasts and identify the enduring influences of these phenomena of world history.

You will require access to a device with an internet connection.
