Informed Consent in Clinical Research – Adults (Scotland)

Informed consent is the foundation of all clinical research.  This workshop will focus on the ethical, legal and practical issues around obtaining informed consent from adults participating in clinical research in Scotland. It includes discussions about vulnerable groups who may require additional safeguards and also covers consent issues relating to the use of human tissue and data.

By the end of this course, learners should:

• Have an understanding of the regulations and laws relating to consent in clinical research
• Recognise the consent issues of using data and human tissue
• Be aware of the special provisions made for adults who cannot give consent
• Have an understanding of the practical aspects of informed consent 

This course is relevant for anyone involved in the informed consent process in clinical research. Please note, the course focuses on Scottish legislation.
