Introduction to Databases and Information Systems

In this Byte Size Learning course, we offer an introduction to databases, information systems, and the most common language used to interact with databases: SQL. There are examples that you can follow along using the provided database (demo_hospital.db) and some fill-in-the-blank exercises throughout. 

We recommend downloading DB Browser for SQLite to code in SQL and interact with our demo database. Instructions are provided in the course learning materials. 

By the end of this Byte Size Learning, you should be able to:

• Identify and differentiate the concepts of database and information systems.
• Identify the two main types of databases, relational and non-relational and their differences.
• Recognise the basic queries of SQL through practical exercises.
