About the course

Explore the expressive potential of ink and wash drawing using dip pens, sticks, and brushes. Develop your skills through hands-on practice, creating dynamic lines, textures, and washes.

Use drawings, objects, and photographs as inspiration to build complex, personal compositions that reflect your imagination and observation. Ideal for beginners and those with some drawing experience looking to refine their approach to ink-based work.

You will be taught in specialist art and design studios and through practical demonstrations, one-to-one tuition, group discussions and critiques.

Learners are responsible for purchasing their own materials. You may be required to bring some materials to your first, and subsequent classes. Learn more about the materials required for this course here.

Please do not purchase any materials until the course is confirmed to run. You will require access to a device with an internet connection.

What you'll learn

Learning in this course is hands-on, and your skills will develop through practice, discovery, and engagement with materials and techniques.

  • Use dip pens, sticks, and brushes confidently to create expressive line and wash drawings
  • Develop ambitious and complex compositions based on both direct observation and secondary sources
  • Apply creative problem-solving and visual storytelling skills to refine a cohesive series of drawings
