Are you wondering where to begin with Patient Public Involvement (PPI) in research? Are you brand new or just looking to build confidence when it comes to PPI and not sure how you should be doing it? Then the PPI Summer School is for you.

Over this online course we will provide you with the confidence and skills in PPI to enable you to undertake your first PPI activity or improve your current practice. The course consists of three half-day sessions with a mix of taught material and interactive activities. You will learn the theoretical underpinnings of PPI practice and understand practical approaches to overcoming common issues. Day four of the course is an optional opportunity to meet 1:1 with our experienced team members to discuss your project and troubleshoot anything you’re struggling with.

By the end of this course, you will have gained an in-depth understanding of how to involve public partners in research in a constructive and inclusive way.

If this course is fully booked, please email education@edinburghCRF.ed.ac.uk to be added to the waiting list (please include your name, course name and course date).

Who the course is for

This course is for anyone carrying out research which has implications for people’s health or well-being, and would like to involve public partners in its planning, management or dissemination.

Everyone is welcome, including students, project managers, PIs and early career researchers.

Course content is slightly more focused on PPI for clinical research, but it is also appropriate if your work does not directly involve research participants (for example, if you are a data scientist, engineer, or pre-clinical researcher).

No prior PPI experience is required.(Please note that some of the Summer School content overlaps with the other PPI courses we offer, such as “A Practical Guide to Patient and Public Involvement” and “Creating and Running a PPI Group”)

This course is designed for academic, public sector and charity workers and the displayed price is for people working in those sectors. It may also be possible to offer places to commercial organisations – please email education@edinburghCRF.ed.ac.uk for further information about availability, applicable booking fees and how to book.
